Nuts About Sketches #207

I really loved this week's sketch for Nuts About Sketches. As soon as I saw it, I knew it would work well as a recap page for Will's first 6 months. I usually struggle with design for these pages, wanting to include lots of photos and information. This sketch just worked!

I used some paper from My Mind's Eye "On The Bright Side" collection. I love the great colors and textures of the patterns in this collection. I started by misting my background cardstock using a cardboard piece leftover from a board game. For my journaling I used some Jillibean Soup journaling sprouts with numbers on them to represent each month. For my title I used a phrase from the "Boys Will Be Boys" Cricut cartridge.

The circle design elements on the edge of the page made me think of this technique I have seen Kelly and Erin (Scrappin' Sisters) use on their layouts. I think one of them did a tutorial recently on how to do the paper curling thing, but I can't find it (sorry!). For mine, I just ripped the area in strips and then rolled them. I cut small pieces of the the orange wood paper and just attached them to the back of the layout.

I used a grungeboard arrow for instead of the journaling under the title. Whenever I use grungeboard, I feel like I need to layer lots of ink and paint on it because it can handle it and it has the extra texture. For this piece I inked it with chipped sapphire and weathered wood distress ink. Then I dipped my finger in some orange paint and rubbed it over the top of the texture. Then I took a white paint pen around the edges and highlighted the edges in a few places.
