Scavenger Hunt Sunday 4-27-14

Happy Sunday! I have some photos (all from the past week) to share.

Bubbles
We had a couple of nice days this week and on Friday we spent some time enjoying the weather. Here's my husband blowing some bubbles for the kids.

Jump
This week was spirit week at my daughter's school. Friday was Crazy Hair/Socks day.  To go with the craziness of her hair and socks, I decided to work on this prompt.

And then my younger daughter decided she wanted to get in on the action. :)

Pajamas Sunday Best
I didn't have any pajama pictures from the week, so I decided to go with this shot of my kids on Easter in their "Sunday best."

Chalk
One of the kids received egg shaped sidewalk chalk for Easter.

Blur
I was thinking motion when I saw this prompt, but Ashley used background blur this week, so so am I.  This is my youngest acting cool in his sister's sunglasses.  He wore them for quite a while one day.  While he was wearing them he started crying and I couldn't stop giggling as I comforted him because all I could see was his crying mouth and these adorable glasses.

Puppy Love- My Scraps and More Sketch #78

A new sketch was posted today on the My Scraps and More Sketch Blog.  This week's sketch is by Tammi:

Our boys stayed with my parents a few weeks ago while we were on our cruise.  My parents have a dog and the boys LOVED playing with her.  My mom sent us some photos of both boys with her and I decided to scrap these two of my youngest.

I started by using my polka dot mask and misting my kraft cardstock base with red and yellow spray ink. I splattered some white ink for some added texture.  I then layered on some patterned paper and matted my photos with cardstock.  I cut the cute little puppy with the Boys Will Be Boys cartridge.  A few embellishments and rub ons and here we are!

Cards and a Tutorial

Happy Monday everyone!  I have a couple or cards to share today and a tutorial over at the Scrapping Everyday Miracles blog.

First up is a card I made last weekend for my sister-in-law whose birthday was a week ago.  I used last week's Unscripted Sketch as inspiration:

I started with a piece of Glossy Cardstock for my background.  I stamped a text background stamp using Resist Ink.  After letting that dry, I used an ink blending tool to add the rainbow of colors on the back using Distress Inks.  I then used the flower stamp and grey distress ink to add the flowers.

The smaller rectangle was a light pink color, I added the bright pink using an ink blending tool and then stamped the "Happy Birthday" with grey and purple inks.  The flower was cut using my Cricut and Botanicals cartridge and I added the details with purple colored pencil. A strip of ribbon and the card is done!

This is a card I made for my mom whose birthday is next weekend.  If you want to see my step by step directions for making the background, you can check it out here on the Scrapping Everyday Miracles blog.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful week!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 4-20-14

Happy Easter to you all!  We are spending the day celebrating with family, but I had a bit of time this morning to put together a scavenger hunt post!  Again, several of my photos are from our cruise about a month ago, mixed with a couple of photos for the last week or so.

Trick
Our trip to the park last week was the first one since my youngest has been able to walk (he started in December) and he had a blast climbing and walking around the play structure.  He spent the majority of the time giving me a heart attack by taking off towards the top of ladders and slides.  His favorite "trick" was going down the slides, face first.  Here he is, getting ready.

Selective Color
This is another photo from the butterfly garden we visited.  This butterfly landed on an orange that was resting on a platform.  Since the background wasn't anything special, I decided to try selective color to accentuate the butterfly.

Close Up
This is the flower of the Cannonball tree.  We saw this at the botanical gardens in Dominica.

Mirror
My husband and my son sleeping.  My son looks so much like his dad, sometimes it seems they are mirror images (with a 28 year age difference).

Bright Colors
Here is a shot from one of the streets of San Juan.  The building in Puerto Rico, as well as the other islands we visited, we so vibrant and beautiful!

April Calendar Page

I'm finally catching up a bit after being gone for a week and then holding down the fort alone for a week!  It has been crazy!  I finished my calendar page for the month, about a week late.  I used a PageMaps sketch for inspiration:

I've been using collections a lot lately, but they are starting to dwindle, especially when it comes to whole sheets of paper.  This sketch needed a couple of full (or close to full) sheets of paper, so I had to dig into my random stash of patterned paper.  I found the multicolor watercolor sheet and worked from that.  I had a tin of K and Company die cuts that I have had forever and so I challenged myself to use a bunch of those on my page as well.

I pulled a bunch of flowers from the die cuts and layered them up around the page.  The set also has many quotes and phrases, so I used several of those to caption my photos. The banner piece was stamped and fussy cut.  I decided to add a little something to the background in a few places by lightly stamping the scroll design.

The journaling card I used has a striped ric rack element running down the side of it.  The colors didn't all go with the colors on my layout, so I used a bunch of die cut flowers to cover it. This is a great way to use up embellishments from collections that you don't have much left from.

Materials:
Cardstock- Bazzill
Patterned Paer- Provo Craft, Reminisce, other
Die Cuts- K and Company, Bo Bunny Press
Tape- Bella Blvd
Stickers- Basic Grey
Stamp- Unity, unknown
Ink- Colorbox

My Scraps and More Sketch #76

It is time for a new sketch at My Scraps and More!  This week, we got to work with a single photo sketch:

I don't do single photo layouts very often, usually just for portraits and that's what I used here.  This is my older son's 18 month portrait.  This shot was originally printed out as a 5x7, but I decided to trim it down to a square to match the sketch and because there was space to do it.

Since I was just using strips of paper to decorate, I mostly pulled out scraps of patterned paper to work with (the striped piece on the bottom was from a new sheet, but it pulled the yellows and grey cardstock together, so I had to use it!).  I also used a couple of pieces of washi tape.

To add some color and texture to the background, I used my hexagon mask and some modeling paste.  I colored the modeling paste with some spray ink to coordinate with the colors in my paper.  I then added one spritz of white ink for some more texture.  Finally, I layered my photo over a flocked star transparency.

I used some blue Basic Grey letter stickers for my title.  To make them stand out a bit more, I stamped some splatters on my background and outlined my letters with white pen. I colored my wood veneer star with some Distress ink and added some texture using the edge of the large splatter stamp to stamp some small splatters in blue ink.

Make sure you head over to the blog and check out what the rest of the team did with the sketch!  Also, head over to the boards and check out the Sketch a thon going on there all month long!

CAS(E) this Sketch- Sympathy

I made a card the other day using last week's sketch from CAS(E) this Sketch.

For this sympathy card, I used some earth tones for my papers.  The book was stamped and heat embossed on yellow vellum.  The sentiment was a little hard to see, so I inked over it a bit with green ink, not sure it really helped.

Pretty basic, straightforward card this time.  Thanks for stopping by!

I created an example for the card sketch.  I made this birthday card for my dad.

I used My Mind's Eye "On the Bright Side".  The pennant shape was stamped on white patterned paper and then fussy cut.  I made the "stitches" using dark blue Stickles.  Head over to the Scrapping Everyday Miracles blog to see what the rest of the team made!
