NAS #256- Baby Shower

Yesterday there was a new sketch revealed at Nuts About Sketches. This week it is a one page sketch with one big photo block. I ended up using it for a photo collage that I had created in Photoshop Elements. My photo collage was larger that the space suggested so I had to make some of the elements smaller. I also ended up moving my title up and having all of my journaling together.

I fussy cut the zebra from a sheet of patterned paper.  I then decided I wanted some more animals, but there were no more left to cut out from the paper so I pulled out some stamps and stamped the alligator, giraffe, and bird.  

I used both the negative and positive cuts for my title to add a bit of dimension.  I like how it turned out, I will be doing this again!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 3-10-13

Good morning! I am ahead of the game this week and have all my photos taken already. Ellie knew what the prompts were this week and she kept me on task, making suggestions of things I could photograph. She is quite the assistant, I think I need to have her "in the know" in the future! Here are my shots for the week:

Word of the Day

Snow!  On Tuesday Ellie had a snow day because we got hit with a snowstorm.  Here she is standing on the pile of snow at the end of the driveway.

Cookies!
This may have been the hardest prompt for me... I gave up desserts for Lent!  It was so hard not to have some of the dough or have one of the cookies straight out of the over!  On the plus side, I probably saved myself about 500 calories...

Birthday Card- SOUS

Hello!  I have a card to share today.  This is a birthday card for my husband's grandpa.  I decided to use the current card sketch from Stuck on U Sketches.

I had a limited amount of time to work on this yesterday (the kids' naptime), so to make the process go a little quicker, I grabbed a mat stack of coordinating patterned paper.  I have been seeing all of these big, beautiful bows on cards lately and I wanted to try one.  I did quite a bit of stamping on this one too.

NAS- Another Look

Yesterday was my first reveal back on the Nuts About Sketches design team.  This was the sketch Shawn gave us and my interpretation for my application.  I had done this one when the challenge at ScrapFit was to use stars.  After I finished it, I realized that I probably wasn't supposed to reveal it yet, so I didn't get to submit it for that challenge.  Oh well, I really like how this one turned out!

I used ultrasound images from my 22 week ultrasound with Nick.  I had this one because they had trouble getting a good look at his face at 20 weeks.  He moved around a bit more this time so they were able to get what they needed.  I highlighted the shot that they were needing with a frame I cut using my Cricut and the Stretch Your Imagination cartridge.  I completed this page before he was born, so I tried to make it somewhat gender neutral since we didn't know if he was a boy or a girl.  

I used my star mask and blue mist for the background.  The darker blue stars are Glossy Accents and some of my American Crafts glitter.  I went over the glitter with more Glossy Accents to seal it in.  I had a lot of fun on this one and am so happy with how it turned out!

Scrapping Everyday Miracles March Challenge

It's the beginning of a new month, which means a new challenge at Scrapping Everyday Miracles. This month’s challenge is to scrap about how it is more blessed to give than to receive.

Have you even given someone something or done something for someone with absolutely no strings attached, expecting nothing in return? How did that make you feel? Have you ever been overjoyed after giving something that made someone truly happy? Have you been the recipient of a gift from a child, so eager to bring you pleasure with something they made for you? Has someone ever done something for you that you could never pay them back for? In this world of always striving for more we can easily forget the blessing of giving to others. 

So put your thinking cap on...and create a project about a gift you received that really touched your heart or a sacrificial gift you gave. Perhaps you could even make a gift to give (specifically for this challenge). Also...it wouldn't have to be a physical gift, do you have photos of when you donated your time to help out?

The scrap twist is to include some gems on your project.

I decided to do a layout about how my cousins and I surprised our grandma with a Cricut for Christmas two years ago. It was something she wanted, but just wouldn't buy for herself. The look on get face when she opened it was priceless. She was like a kid on Christmas morning. It truly was my favorite moment of that year.

I used lots of sparkly elements on this layout to emulate the sparkle of that time of year. One of the things I did was cover a couple of the stickers with Stickles.  I ended up not using gems, but I used sequins and glitter dot stickers which act a lot like gems.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 3-3-13

It's Sunday again and this time I have all my photos ready (somewhat) on time! This week is all about the boys with the colorful prompts for the Scavenger Hunt:

It ain't easy being green, but it sure is cute!  Yawning baby in a froggy sleeper.  :)

This is our orange guppy, Orangey.  We've had him for about 3 months.

Red pjs and onsie, brotherly love. :)

Yellow
Nick loves watching the yellow ducky mobile on his swing.  He even gets mad when it stops moving!

March Calendar Page

Well, I finished my calendar layout just in time again!  I used another sketch from Nuts About Sketches for this one.  There were so many spots for photos I actually ended up reducing it by 2!  I combined two of the spots on the right page and used one of the spots on the left page for an embellishment cluster.

I found these embossed chipboard pieces at Michael's a few weeks ago.  They are plain chipboard so I covered them in Picket Fence Distress Stain and then inked over the raised parts with Wild Honey Distress Ink and the edges with Picked Raspberry Distress Ink.

For the flowers, I decided to use some Core'dinations cardstock I've been hoarding.  I cut them out using the Cricut and then dry embossed them.  I took my sanding block and revealed the light colored core.  The large one I inked the edges with some Picked Raspberry Distress Ink. I backed the centers with green polka dot paper.  I filled in the holes with Glossy Accents and then sprinkled white tinsel glitter on them.
