Some Cards to Share

I have a few cards that I've made so far this week. Two of them are for Operation Write Home and the other is for my husband's grandpa whose birthday is Sunday.

This one I made this morning using the current sketch at Unscripted Sketches. I have been really into making masculine cards for some reason lately. I had fun cutting out the little creatures using the "Boys Will Be Boys" Cricut cartridge.

 For the next one I used the "Sentimentals" Cricut cartridge for the feather pen and the sentiment. This one was a pretty quick one. The other thing I noticed I am into right now is pen stitching to outline elements, I feel like it adds a finishing touch and most of the time I am too lazy to hand stitch so this is a quick alternative.

Last is the birthday card I made for Rick's grandpa. I used an older Mojo Monday sketch for this one. For the background, I used a Crafter's Workshop template and Distress ink. I used my Cricut for this one too: I used the "Storybook" cartridge for the scalloped circle and bracket shape.

Scrapbooking Your Faith: Mini Book

The other assignment for week 1 was to make a mini album with quotes and/or bible verses that speak to you. I decided to use the one I started at Scrapfest this year because I didn't have any other purpose for it, it was already partially done and the colors and themes of it worked well for this subject.

I added a few photos that I felt represented the verses well.  I love fonts so I had a lot of fun making each verse a different font.  I left room in a few places to add more verses as I find them. 

Making this book really made me pay attention to the Bible verses I was coming across the last week or so and made me think about what they mean to me. It has been a great experience!

First Reveal at Nuts About Sketches!

Today was the first day that the new design team's work was revealed with a new sketch at "Nuts About Sketches." This week's sketch is a two pager, and I really enjoyed working with it. I made a few modifications to the sizes of the photos and put a journaling spot in the place of one of the photos. After I had everything placed on the page, I felt that the top area needed something, so I pulled out some stamps and a couple of coordinating ink colors. I didn't have flowers that matched my colors so I took some pink ones and sprayed them with Golden Terra Cotta Glimmer Mist. I do all of my misting in a large clothes box (the ones that fold flat) and some of the other colors that I have sprayed in there bled onto the flowers so I ended up having to ink them a bit with brown ink. Here is the sketch and my interpretation:

Scrapbooking Your Faith: Life Verse

Our first assignment for "Scrapbooking Your Faith" was to choose a "life verse" and make a layout around that verse. I chose a couple of verse from Proverbs 31. A few years ago, my friends and I read and discussed the book "Graced and Gifted" by Kimberley Hahn. It is a wonderful book that breaks down Proverbs 31 and applies it to the life of a homemaker. As I was looking for a life verse I was reminded of what I learned and what good instruction this chapter is. I ended up selecting two verses from this chapter as my life verse: 25 and 30. The part of verse 25 that I really need to remember is "and she laughs at the days to come," meaning that we should regard the future with joy and excitement, not anxiety. As a worrier, I need to be reminded of this frequently. Verse 30 is a good reminder of what is really important when taking care of and developing ourselves. I chose to use a photo of my Bible and rosary because they are important symbols of what should be guiding me in my life.

The design of this page was based off of Courtney's directions because I really wanted to focus on the message.

Quick Card

My card today was a quick one, using some scraps and bits and pieces that didn't make it onto other projects. I spent some time today checking out our assignment for the first week of Scrapbooking Your Faith. I think it is going to be a great class. If you are interested, you can sign up through the 7th.

Carnival Birthday Card

For my card yesterday I used the current card sketch at Frosted Designs. I loved all the layers on this and stuck pretty close to the sketch. I also used the current Cooking With Cricut challenge which is to create a project with a Carnival or Carnival Birthday theme. I don't have any really Carnival cartridges, so I had to search a bit for this one. I thought I was pretty familiar with the different costumes on "Paper Doll Dress Up, but I didn't realize there was a clown on it! When I found that, I know that's what I needed to go with. This was a pretty labor intensive card with all the layers to the clown and then the ribbon flower. The ribbon that I used had stitching running through the center of it, so I was hoping I would be able to use that the gather it into a flower... no such luck. I ended up taking that stitching out and doing a running stitch of my own the make the flower. I added some interest to the white cardstock behind the clown by dry embossing it and then pressing it onto an inkpad. I ended up with more ink on it than I had planned, but decided to go with it. In the end, I am really pleased with how this one turned out!
