52 Week Photography Challenge- Week 35

Hello! I am back today with my photos for the From Moments to Memories 52 Week photography challenge. This week's prompt was easy, since it is what I do and I had a shoot this past weekend: Portrait! The shoot was a newborn shoot, but her older sister needed to get in on the fun since she will be 2 soon.

52 Week Photography Challenge- Weeks 30-34

Well, here I am again, waaaaay behind. I have 5 photos for the last 5 prompts to share.

Week 30- Reflections
We spent last week with my husband's sister's family in Illinois. One of the first nights we were there, I noticed the sky was beautiful and it was super still so the pond in their backyard had a perfect reflection in it.

Week 31- Transportation
I struggled with this prompt the most and I'm not loving this photo for it, but I decided I needed to move on! While we were in Illinois, we went to Legoland. This is my husband and daughter on one of the rides there.

Week 32- Clouds
This photo was taken the same night as the first one in this post, just shooting in a different direction.

Week 33- Morning
A couple of weeks ago, the kids, my parents, and I went to the Arboretum. It rained that morning, and throughout the day, leaving lovely drops on the flowers and plants.

Week 34- Wildlife
The kids and I went to the zoo yesterday. This white cheeked gibbon was howling away while we were there and I managed to catch this shot of it.

52 Week Photography Challenge- Week 29

Hello! I am here today to post my photo for week 29! This week's prompt was Close Up/Macro. It has been raining off and on here all day. After the most recent shower, I grabbed my camera and headed outside to see if I could get some photos of my flowers with water droplets on them. I was successful! Here is my photo:

52 Week Photography Callenge- Weeks 24-28

Holy smokes, I really let this one get away from me! I'm here to post my photos for the prompts from the last MONTH!

Week 24- Food- Part of the reason it has taken so long for me to post this is this prompt. I just photograph food! Except the cakes that I decorate... This past weekend was my son's birthday so I decorated this cake for him with a Chima Lego character, Laval.

Week 25- Summer- Around here, one of the surest signs of summer is playing in the water. Two weekends ago we got to go play in a friend's pool for the afternoon.

Week 26- Rule of Thirds- We went to the Children's Museum last week with family. This is my nephew playing with these lights that light up when wet.

Week 27- Freedom- Fireworks are big on the 4th of July so they have become associated with freedom. Also, Minnesota used to be much more strict about the fireworks that people could have, so the fact that we can enjoy our own fireworks is a sign of freedom.

Week 28- Sun- While this photo was taken inside, I love the back lighting from the sun coming in the huge windows of this room in the Children's Museum.

There you have it! I hope I can make these posts a little more regular again!

52 Week Photography Challenge- Weeks 22 and 23

Hello! So much for staying caught up! I have two of my photos here to share for the last couple of weeks.

First up is week 22: Eyes. We took a family vacation to the Black Hills last week. I had seen an article about a photographer who photographs weddings by photographing images reflected in people's eyes (I'm not explaining that well at all...). I wanted to try to get the reflection of Mount Rushmore in my daughter's eyes, but the lighting wasn't right. There were some pretty cool clouds that you can see in her eye though.

Next up is Week 23: Friends. My kids can be the best of friends and get along great and then other times, not so much. They had lots of opportunities to play together over the course of our trip. Here are three of my kids climbing the dunes in the Badlands.

52 Week Photography Challenge- Weeks 20 and 21

Hello! I'm finally posting my photos for weeks 20 and 21, which means I am caught up! I'm thinking this week's prompt should be fairly easy, so I should be able to post my photo for this week this weekend.

First up is week 20, which was Something Old. I struggled a lot with this one. We spent Monday at my sister-in-law's dad's house on the lake and that's where I was able to take both of these shots. I believe this piece was once a baby crib, but I may be wrong. They have put a piece of plywood across the bottom to make it a bench for when they want to sit around the fire.

This was also shot at the lake house, this time on the dock by the lake. The prompt for week 21 was leading lines. I used the railing and the siding to lead to eye to the little flag.

52 Week Photography Challenge- Week 19

Hello! I am finally back with another installment of my weekly photography challenge! I am a few weeks behind again, and I only have one photo to share today. I'm hoping I can catch up this weekend!

The prompt for week 19 was "birds". I had the opportunity to go to the Arboretum yesterday and this family of geese was hanging out by the irises. They were pretty tame as they didn't seem bothered at all by the people walking by, including the 3 first grade boys with me.

52 Week Photography Challenge- Week 18

Hi all! I'm getting to this late in the week, but better late than never, right? The prompt for week 18 was In Bloom. We have an ornamental crab apple tree in our backyard and I look forward to it blooming every spring and it is blooming this week! I got out last night and took some pictures of it.

Have a great rest of the week!

52 Week Photography Challenge- Weeks 15 and 16

Here I am, playing catch up again. I had a photo for last week's prompt, I just never got around to posting, so here goes.

Week 15's prompt is family. We have spent a lot of time with family this month between a baptism, Easter celebrations, a birthday celebration and my daughter's first communion. This photo is from one of our Easter celebrations and it is of my father-in-law and two of his grandsons.

The week 16 prompt was water. I ended up going back to the beginning of the month because I love how this photo of my nephew being baptized turned out.

Thanks for stopping by to check my photos, Hopefully I'll be back next week with a photo for "In Bloom."

52 Week Photography Challenge- Weeks 12-14

Happy (holy) Good Friday to all of you! I've fallen a few weeks behind on the photography challenge, but I've finally put together the photos for this post.

First up is Week 12, which was Far Away. My kids decided to play a little soccer at the park with another kid who was there.

The Week 13 prompt was Black and White. This one is from a newborn shoot that I did a couple of weekends ago.

Week 14 (which I am a few weeks early on) is Light. This shot is from the same night at the park as the one above, but I tried shooting into the sun and I thought this one turned out pretty cool.

And, for my own reference, the list:

52 Week Photography Challenge- Spring

I'm on time this week, woot woot! The prompt for this week was Spring. It is still pretty gray around here, but I noticed that my chives are starting to poke out of the ground. We also had some rain this morning, so I got out there before it all dried up and captured some water droplets on the chives.

52 Week Photography Challenge- Books and Green

I am a week behind on posting photos for the From Moments to Memories 52 Week Photography Challenge. I just didn't have anything last week for the prompt books. This week a got a shot of my oldest daughter (who is a complete bookworm) reading a book.

This week's prompt was green. It's pretty brown around here, but we found some green at the zoo earlier this week and a white cheeked gibbon that was only too happy to pose. ;)
And the list again (honestly, it is so I don't have to go back very far on my blog to find the next prompt):

52 Week Photography Challenge- From Below

I'm posting this a little late again this week. I had ideas for this prompt, but the opportunities didn't arise for me to take the shots I had in mind. So I started thinking about what I could take a picture of in my home. I've done the inside of my fridge. We have a couple of ceiling fans that I considered, and then I noticed the light fixture in our entry and decided to work with that.
Not too bad for last-minute, after the deadline...

52 Week Photography Challenge- Depth of Field

I'm a little late posting this week because I had a couple of photos sessions over the weekend, so I have been busy editing those photos. My photo today is from one of those sessions, a newborn session of my newest nephew. My depth of field is pretty shallow here, with the eyelashes of his left eye in focus but his other eye and bum out of focus.

52 Week Photography Challenge- Red

Hello! I am back with my photo for the week. The prompt for this week was "red," which should have been easy, with it being Valentine's day and all, but it wasn't.  My photo doesn't have a true red, but maroon instead. I took my youngest to the local sports dome for "tot turf time" this past week. There are three inflatables, this being the biggest. He had a blast running from one to another and bouncing around inside. Here he is with one of his friends after climbing the wall inside and getting ready to jump down on the other side.

52 Week Photography Challenge- Lazy Days

Hi all! I hope you had a great weekend! I have a couple of photos to share this week for the prompt. First up is one of my kids playing/watching video games from the weekend.

My second photo is from the zoo today. I got lucky and caught the tiger yawning.

Here is the list of prompts again, in case you are interested in participating!

52 Week Photography Challenge- Wide Angle

Hello! It's been a little crazy around here with some illness and just hanging around at home. I had hoped to get out and shoot landscape or something for this prompt, but it didn't happen. I decided to take some in our house and embrace the background. I so often shoot zoomed in, cropping out much of the background so the focus is on the subject. I forget that so much story can be told from keeping those background details in the shot. So today we have a photo of my boys playing with marbles in our entry. There are a few toys strewn about, which is pretty typical. I also like the lines of the bench, stairs and window leading the eye to my subjects.

52 Week Photography Challenge- Self Portrait

Well, I said this prompt was going to be a challenge, and it was. I procrastinated and put it off. Finally, today I set up the tripod and took some shots. The one I liked the best ended up not being triggered by me...

Close enough, right? This is what I am going with. My little daytime buddy and me.

52 Week Photography Challenge- Drink

Happy Monday! I'm back with my photo for the From Moments to Memories 52 Week Photo Challenge!  This prompt was definitely more of a challenge for me. I drink mostly water, which is not very interesting... I also drink tea, so that is what I ended up working with for my shot this week. I made some Irish Breakfast tea and then poured a bit of cashew milk into it before snapping this photo.

It looks like next week's prompt is "self portrait," that should be another challenging one!

52 Week Photography Challenge- Winter

Hello! I hope you are all staying warm! We are in the middle of a freezing rain/snow storm, which is appropriate, since the prompt this week for the 52 Week Photography Challenge was "winter." My kids have been loving playing in the snow, and that is what I captured in my image this week.
I wasn't totally thrilled with this photo when I took it, but a few tweaks in Photoshop to brighten it and I am pretty happy with it! It was taken in late afternoon, so the sun in behind and off to the left of my daughter.

In case you are interested in looking ahead, like I am, here is the list of prompts for the year:
