Scrapbooking Your Faith: Life Verse

Our first assignment for "Scrapbooking Your Faith" was to choose a "life verse" and make a layout around that verse. I chose a couple of verse from Proverbs 31. A few years ago, my friends and I read and discussed the book "Graced and Gifted" by Kimberley Hahn. It is a wonderful book that breaks down Proverbs 31 and applies it to the life of a homemaker. As I was looking for a life verse I was reminded of what I learned and what good instruction this chapter is. I ended up selecting two verses from this chapter as my life verse: 25 and 30. The part of verse 25 that I really need to remember is "and she laughs at the days to come," meaning that we should regard the future with joy and excitement, not anxiety. As a worrier, I need to be reminded of this frequently. Verse 30 is a good reminder of what is really important when taking care of and developing ourselves. I chose to use a photo of my Bible and rosary because they are important symbols of what should be guiding me in my life.

The design of this page was based off of Courtney's directions because I really wanted to focus on the message.

Quick Card

My card today was a quick one, using some scraps and bits and pieces that didn't make it onto other projects. I spent some time today checking out our assignment for the first week of Scrapbooking Your Faith. I think it is going to be a great class. If you are interested, you can sign up through the 7th.

Carnival Birthday Card

For my card yesterday I used the current card sketch at Frosted Designs. I loved all the layers on this and stuck pretty close to the sketch. I also used the current Cooking With Cricut challenge which is to create a project with a Carnival or Carnival Birthday theme. I don't have any really Carnival cartridges, so I had to search a bit for this one. I thought I was pretty familiar with the different costumes on "Paper Doll Dress Up, but I didn't realize there was a clown on it! When I found that, I know that's what I needed to go with. This was a pretty labor intensive card with all the layers to the clown and then the ribbon flower. The ribbon that I used had stitching running through the center of it, so I was hoping I would be able to use that the gather it into a flower... no such luck. I ended up taking that stitching out and doing a running stitch of my own the make the flower. I added some interest to the white cardstock behind the clown by dry embossing it and then pressing it onto an inkpad. I ended up with more ink on it than I had planned, but decided to go with it. In the end, I am really pleased with how this one turned out!

Stamping and Sketch Challenge

For my card on Tuesday, I used a sketch from My Scraps and More. It is a pretty basic sketch that left a lot of room for interpretation. I rotated it 90 degrees for my card. Bo Bunny also posted a card challenge that day, which was to use some of their stamps on a card. I pulled out my Bo Bunny stuff and made this card using paper and stamps from their Sun Kissed line. I stamped and embossed the cute little bird stamp and then colored it in with some pens. The green on the bird is a metallic pen, so it is actually a darker color, but the flash make it look pastel. (I had to use flash when I took the photo because it was a dreary day...) I also stamped some fun flowers on the background of the sentiment block. Anyway, here is the sketch and the card:

Sketch Saturday #196

For my card on Monday, I used this week's sketch at Sketch Saturday. I decided it was time to make a masculine birthday card so I pulled out my animal stamps. I did lots of inking on this one. I stuck pretty close to the sketch.

Card Patterns #154

This card started with a scrap from my March calendar page, but I ended up not even using that because I decided it was too bold for the rest of the card. I used this week's Card Pattern for my card and rotated it 90 degrees. I used my Botanicals Cricut cartridge for the flowers and hummingbirds and watercolor pencils and a water pen to color them. I also used Walnut Stain Distress Ink on everything to soften it.

1 sketch + 2 challenges= March Calendar page!

I used a Sketch Support sketch again this month for my calendar page. I love how many photos I can fit on a two page spread with these sketches! You can find the original sketch here. Sketches in Thyme is holding a bonus open challenge week where you can submit any layout using a sketch!

Finally, the current Scrap your CRAP challenge is two use at least 3 different stamps on a project. It took a little effort, but I ended up using 4 stamps on this layout: the journaling spots, leaves, and two for the butterfly on the left hand page. I used the Cricut to cut out the flowers (Walk in my Garden) and journaling spots (Sentimentals). I also stitched the stems on the flowers. I don't necessarily like taking the time to hand stitch on my layouts, but I really like the texture it adds. I had a lot of fun playing with different products and adding little touches here and there to this layout. (In case you were wondering, the left hand page is going on the calendar this month!)
