Cards From Layout Scraps

Hello, I have two cards I put together this last week using scraps from layouts. First up is a card where I used the negative space from the smaller rose from the "Carmen" layout in this post. The pieces stayed stuck to the mat after I cut it and so I used a piece of Press and Seal to lift it off the mat and keep the pieces mostly in place. I then transferred it to this piece of shimmer black cardstock. I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment on a strip of matching cardstock. I edged the strip with black ink to make it stand out a bit. I finished off the card with gem pearls and Liquid Pearl dots.

Next up is a card I made using scraps from my June calendar page. I trimmed an inch off of each strip, so I had 1" squares of all the different papers. I took those and laid them out on a piece of coordinating cardstock. I was one short, so I used a stamp to create the large square and focal point. I stamped the sentiment on the same cardstock. I matted the whole thing on a piece of patterned paper and added a couple of yellow Diamond dots to the sentiment strip to finish it off.

 

June Calendar page- Stick It Down

Hello all! I have my June calendar page ready to share! I started with the current double page sketch from Stick It Down:

I used a collection that I have mostly scraps because I thought this sketch would work well with that. I cut strips and then trimmed them into banners before adding them to my background. I had a bigger piece of a mostly solid patterned paper that I used as a mat for the photos on the right had page. I typed, printed and trimmed my journaling into strips. For my title, I used some chipboard letters (I trimmed a "B" to make the "E". I then cut the letters from light green vellum to give a subtle repeated effect above and below the chipboard letters. To embellish the page, I used some die cut flowers, stickers and homemade enamel dots. 

 

Dance Layouts

I got a couple more dance layouts done over the last couple of weeks. Scrap a Sketch released 7 sketches at the beginning of the month for International Scrapbooking Day and I have used two of them so far. 

First, I used Scrap the Rainbow #2:

Part of the challenge was to use mostly blue on the layout. I started by finding some blue papers to go with my photos. I then cut them into strips and laid them across my background. Instead of a heart, I cut a wheel shape to suggest a ferris wheel. I cut the title using my Cricut. I then embellished my page with some foam stickers, puffy stickers and regular stickers. I felt like the title needed a little something to ground it, so I added the strip of washi tape. I finished off the layout with some gold liquid pearls on the wheel to suggest the lights you see on a ferris wheel.

Next, I used Scrap the Rainbow #4:

This one ended up being pretty loosely based on the sketch. I started by creating a background on this paper with a resist design, by using the packaging technique to add greens (the color to use for this challenge) to the page. I then laid out the photos in a similar shape to the ones on the sketch, but they are much bigger, so I only made two lines of stitching with my sewing machine. I cut the title with my Cricut and used a journaling spot for the rest of the info. To embellish the page, I found these two Grungeboard hinges and painted them black. I adhered them in the corners and added silver brads to the holes. This was a pretty simple layout, but I love how it turned out!

 

Cards!

Hi all! I've neglected this blog the last couple of weeks! I have some cards to share to make up for it!

First up, I have a graduation card. I got a Hero Arts ombre inkpad this week and wanted to try it out. I used this large sunflower stamp and the result turned out beautiful. I then found some coordinating cardstock for the sentiment and stamped and heat embossed it in gold. I wanted the card front to stand out from the card base, so I ink blended the lightest color from the ombre pad around the edges. Once that was all dry, I stamped and heat embossed the graduation hats. I adhered the sentiment banner and added a few gold sequin leaves to finish it off.

Next is a birthday card I made for my son's 6th birthday. He has been really into "Spidey and His Amazing Friends" so I went in search of a cut file to make Spidey. I found this as part of a set here.  The only bummer about this cut file is that all of the red is individual pieces- it took a while to assemble. I ended up using clear contact paper to lift the pieces from the mat, added glue to the back and then pressed it onto the black background piece. However, not every piece transferred with that technique, so I spent some time placing tiny individual pieces. Since the pieces around the spider on the chest didn't cut great, I created a spider with some silver Nuvo drops. For the card front, I used a background stamp. I cut a piece of red cardstock to create a thin border around the main panel. To finish things off, I used some sequins.

My next card is also a birthday card. This one was based off the current card sketch from Stick It Down:

I started by doing the smooshing technique on a piece of watercolor paper. I used green, yellow, and blue. Once that was dry, I tore it down one edge, inked the torn edge, and layered it over a piece of coordinating patterned paper. I cut the bursts and wrote the sentiment using my Cricut. I finished off the card front with some irridescent gold stars.

Finally is a set of mother's day cards. I used the same techniques across all of them, just varied the papers. I started with the Concord and 9th butterfly turnabout stamp and made two 6x6 panels, which I cut in half and fit them on a card front. I used patterned paper for two of my side panels and a shimmery silver paper, that I ran through an embossing folder, for the other two. I stamped and heat embossed the large butterflies and just adhered the centers to allow the wings to lift a bit. For the sentiment, I used words from a couple of different sets. The "you are" is actually part of a stamp that says "you are my," but I just didn't ink "my." I stamped and heat embossed the words.
